Team Lopez – Julia Lopez MP’s office recently attended Anthony Nolan’s parliamentary drop-in event on saving the lives of people with blood cancer.
Anthony Nolan is the charity that improves the lives of people with blood cancer. They do this by growing their register of potential stem cell donors, conducting ground-breaking research, and providing support and clinical care for patients and their families.
Research has shown that the younger the donor, the better the patient’s chance of survival. Young male donors are much more likely to be selected by transplant centres. Sadly, people from minority ethnic backgrounds currently have significantly less chance of finding a lifesaving stem cell match from an unrelated donor. This is why Anthony Nolan have set an ambitious target for at least 20% of new people joining the register to be from a minority ethnic background.
Mrs Lopez is already registered on Anthony Nolan’s register and supports Anthony Nolan’s call for more people aged 16-30 to join the stem cell donor register.
