Julia Lopez MP has welcomed the first event held at Harold Hill’s MyPlace, organised by her office in partnership with the dynamic team from the Romford Job Centre Plus.
This event follows three successful events held over the last two years at Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch, and showcased numerous apprenticeship, employment and training opportunities from local employers and providers.
This is our fourth employment fair and Mrs Lopez was keen to showcase opportunities at MyPlace, Harold Hill, ensuring that all residents in the Hornchurch and Upminster constituency have access to these successful events. We know that there will always be some people who are unable to make the previous fairs in Hornchurch, owing to its location or timing, and this fair gave the opportunity for those who live in Harold Hill and Romford, who could not attend a previous fair in Hornchurch, to explore local roles and look at what support they may receive from training providers and support groups.
We were very pleased to host employers including AstraZeneca, BHRUT, Metro Bank, Care Providers Voice, Breyer Group, Go Ahead, Quint Education, British Army and the Metropolitan Police. Likewise, it was brilliant to host training and support providers including Specialist Trade Courses, Generation UK, Peabody, Forward Trust, New City College, Catch 22, the DWP Disability and Support Team, and Havering Works.
The Met Police offered a number of different entry routes for a variety of front of house and behind the scenes roles. Likewise, our local NHS trust, BHRUT, showcased apprenticeship and employment opportunities for healthcare professional, support and administrative staff. Turning to the private sector, AstraZeneca, who employ over 65,000 people worldwide, showcased one of their new apprentices highlighting the variety of exciting apprenticeships they have available into the company. It was a pleasure to meet with the Regional Director and his team from Metro Bank, who offer a number of roles into employment and offer English courses for those who require additional development.
Following yesterday’s fair, which we believe was the busiest fair we have held, Mrs Lopez hopes that many residents will benefit from local opportunities and progress into fulfilling, secure roles and careers. This webpage will be updated in due course when we received statistics from the Romford Job Centre Plus about the progression of residents into the roles which were showcased.
