Following on from my recent first virtual Jobs Fair, I will be hosting a virtual Apprenticeships Fair on Friday 11 December at 10am.
This event will focus on those looking to start a new career within the Civil Service. Presentations from government departments will highlight the exciting career opportunities within the Civil Service which will allow you to become professionally accredited, by undertaking a work-based qualification in the form of an apprenticeship. These opportunities are available to anyone aged 16 and over; not just for school leavers. A presentation by the Department of Work and Pensions is already confirmed and we hope to add further government departments in due course.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is the largest Government Department. Supporting the lives of millions of people across the UK; in work, into work, out of work and through retirement. The pandemic has had a huge impact on the lives of millions of people and the DWP has had to step up rapidly to provide support and guidance at this time of crisis. The Department's work is as important now as it has ever been and by joining the DWP team, you could play a role in the national effort to help people with job advice and benefits support when they need it most. Could a career in the DWP be for you? There are lots of opportunities available and this event will help you find out more about how your skills might fit in.
To register, applicants are requested to email my office with their full name and address listing which sessions they wish to enrol on. My office can be contacted via – [email protected]. Please register early to avoid disappointment.
In October it was great to put constituents in touch with Network Rail, the British Transport Police and UPS to discuss the various job opportunities they have. This December, I am looking forward to introducing constituents to potential careers within the Civil Service. While some older constituents may feel dissuaded by the term apprenticeship, I would like to assure you that these roles are just as suitable for more experienced candidates seeking a new opportunity as they are to those seeking to enter the job market for the first time. In the new year, I plan to host a similar event which will focus primarily on opportunities for school leavers, however I hope that a wide variety of candidates will register for this event.
