Julia Lopez MP hosted students from Sacred Heart of Mary and Abbs Cross Academy for a tour of the Palace of Westminster and for a scrutiny session to learn more about her role and the functioning of Parliament.
The group of 15 students were shown through the Palace of Westminster, catching the Speaker’s Procession before business began in the House of Commons, before quizzing Julia Lopez MP on her role as the Member of Parliament for Hornchurch & Upminster. Students asked Julia of her views on housing prices, the ULEZ expansion, knife crime and climate change amongst other issues. After the Q&A session students were shown through the House of Lords and were able to watch debates on Private Members Bills from the House of Commons gallery.
Julia Lopez MP said: ’It was great to once again host a group of local students within the Palace of Westminster and to be able to answer their questions on issues of importance to them at the centre of our democracy. As is always the case when I meet with local students, I was very impressed by the thoughtfulness of their questions and their approach to complex issues. It was a pleasure spending time with them this morning.’
