Julia Lopez MP led an assembly for Year 5 and 6 pupils at Hilldene Primary School.
Visiting on Friday 2 February, the Hornchurch & Upminster MP spoke about her role as their representative in Parliament and answered a number of questions from students, discussing with them the importance of democracy, engaging in public life and improving life for students at school. The visit followed a recent trip by the School Council to the Palace of Westminster where the school’s representatives saw the inner-workings of Parliament and learned how MPs make law.
Commenting afterwards, Julia Lopez MP said:
‘It was great to speak to such a lively group of students this morning and to see how much the School Council had enjoyed their visit to Parliament. Children always bring a refreshing insight to their questioning and it was clear how much the School Council had reflected on what they had learned from their visit and how engaged all the students were.’
