Team Lopez – It was a pleasure to attend the official opening of Upminster Windmill and see how an iconic local landmark has been beautifully restored.
The restoration has been overseen by the Friends of Upminster Windmill who have been successful in securing funding of £1.4 million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund as well as funding from Veolia Maintenance Trusts.
Residents can read about the painstaking details of the official restoration on the Upminster Windmill website, and volunteers have worked incredibly hard and dedicated a huge amount of their own time to refurb the cap, internal machinery, and develop a new visitor centre and landscape the surrounding gardens.
On the above website, residents can also register to attend an upcoming open day on 23 and 24 September or 28 and 29 October.
It is the Friends’ ambition to one day in the future use the windmill to produce its own flour and bread!
