Tonight I welcomed the Harold Wood branch of the Women's Institute to parliament as part of their packed social and community calendar. We had the chance first to talk about the WI's work in the community and my role as the branch's local MP, before taking a tour of parliament.
The Harold Wood WI are a friendly, inclusive group of ladies of all ages who meet regularly on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30 for a 7.45pm start. Their aim is to make friends, share knowledge, learn new skills, and have fun.
The programme is varied with interesting Speakers, craft events, social nights and there is always time for tea, biscuits and a chat.
In addition they run various clubs such as book, crafts, walking, games, cafe, cinema and theatre trips. They also have a Dames That Dine club every other month, and get together with other WI's for other social events.
They welcome new visitors to their meetings where you will always find a friendly face to sit with.
