Julia Lopez MP has welcomed today’s publication that Havering Council was able to complete 348 additional highways maintenance repairs between 21 December 2023 and 14 March 2024 following the reallocation of HS2 funds.
In December, the Department for Transport announced that Havering would benefit from £10.4m over the next decade to fix potholes and fund highways repairs. This funding was confirmed following changes to the scope of the HS2 rail project with funds reallocated to support other transport projects in the UK.
For both the 2023/24 and 2024/25 financial years. Havering Council will receive £333,000 to keep carriageways, cycleways, footways or structures safe. Today, Havering Council published the number of repairs already completed from this funding. (Listed by the Council according to the previous ward boundaries):
Cranham - 32
Emerson Park - 36
Gooshays - 26
Hacton - 54
Harold Wood - 19
Heaton - 13
St. Andrews - 140
Upminster - 28
Total - 348
Julia Lopez MP said: “It is great to see that funding announced in December has already facilitated so many vital highway repairs, with 348 completed in under three months. Until recently, this funding would have been allocated to TfL for distribution across London but, by allocating this directly to councils, the Government has ensured that Havering received its fair share. I look forward to receiving further updates on the improvements delivered through this funding.”
