Tennis courts in Harold Wood park will benefit from a share of a £30m of Government funding to boost access to grassroots sport and get more people active. The funding is provided via a partnership between the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Lawn Tennis Association to refurbish and improve tennis courts across the country.

The courts in Harold Wood will be refurbished alongside courts in Haynes Park, Lodge Farm Park and Raphael Park elsewhere in Havering. The refurbishment of Harold Wood courts began in August and is expected to be completed by mid-September.

A number of other courts in the borough, including those in Upminster Park, will benefit from the installation of new access gates with free sessions to be made available to the public.

This investment of over £390,000 in the borough forms part of a wider £30m programme to improve tennis facilities across the country and to drive higher participation in tennis. This programme falls within the Government's strategy to improve sports participation in the country with ambitions to have a further 3.5 million children and adults to become physically active by 2030.
